A man was killed and two others were injured in an apartment fire Wednesday morning in the North City Farms neighborhood of Sacramento, authorities said.

The fire started around 3 a.m. in the 2900 block of 16th Avenue, with “heavy fire” engulfing the top floor of a 10-apartment building, the Sacramento Fire Department said. in tweets.

A man found inside a unit on the building’s second floor was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter, the fire department said.

Two other patients were taken to hospital with “less serious injuries”, fire department officials said.

The apartment fire has been extinguished and its cause is still under investigation.

The identity of the deceased victim will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office pending notification of the family.
