NEWPORT, Ky. (WXIX) – Tenants of a Newport apartment complex who received vacancy notices will now have more time to find new homes and money to help with moving costs.
SPS management delivered the notice letter to Victoria Square tenants on Wednesday. Some tenants were first asked to vacate the premises by September.

The apartments’ new owner, Sunset Property Solutions, will soon begin construction on the complex, which sits in the shadow of what will eventually become the 25-acre mixed-use Ovation development on the banks of the Ohio and Licking rivers.
Construction will take place in two phases, which would have given some tenants 60 days to leave. Others have been given until the end of January.
Those given 60 days notice to leave will now have until October 31 to find alternative accommodation.
“While we thought that respecting leases and giving at least 70 days notice to move out would be enough to ensure that most residents would be able to find another place to live, we learned by talking to many residents that, for many of you, this is not the case. Knowing that many residents need more help, we are taking additional steps to alleviate some of the hardships many residents are facing,” the letter reads.
SPS Management is now offering an extended moving day, offering each household $500 to help with their move and guaranteeing the return of security deposits as long as the apartment is not damaged.
“We hope that extending the deadline for an additional month will allow you to find a new home, and that providing you with $500 for your expenses and guaranteeing the return of your security deposit will facilitate your transition,” the letter states.
The City of Newport said the Brighton Center has set up a helpline at 859.491.8303 to provide resources and help residents of Victoria Square find new accommodation. City officials have also been in contact with the developer to provide resources to help displaced residents.
