In late summer 2004, Los Altos owner Judy Fusco put her then newly renovated six-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom property in Los Altos up for rent. As the New York Post reports, Fusco’s first tenants were none other than Facebook founders Mark Zuckerberg, Dustin Moskovitz and Sean Parker.

At the time, Fusco’s asking price was $5,500 per month. Eighteen years later? The house was relisted for twice that amount: $11,000 a month.

Even taking inflation into account, that’s a huge increase. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, $5,500 in September 2004 (when the house was first rented by Facebook founders) equals $8,582 today.

The rental option is also a stark change from a few months ago, when the roughly 3,000 square foot property went up for sale at $5.3 million. That amount dropped to $4.998 million after a few weeks on the market, and it remained on sale until July 15, when the listing was removed and replaced with the rental request for $11,000 per month.

There is some controversy over what part of Facebook’s origin story can be traced here. Moskovitz previously tweeted that there was “nothing historic in this house. We started Facebook from the Harvard dorm.” He wrote a whole thread about the aforementioned New York Post story, alleging Fusco “made up” many of the anecdotes she told, including that the Winklevoss twins argued with Zuckerberg over ownership. “Judy Fusco is a smart real estate agent, but I hope the new owners don’t assume that’s true,” he concluded.

If you’re willing to look past potentially inflated historical significance, the property has other enticing offerings, as you’d expect for a home valued at millions of dollars. On Zillow, the listing agent notes that the home sits at the end of a cul-de-sac “with a custom noise barrier in the expansive backyard and a gazebo perfect for barbecues and get-togethers.” There are floor to ceiling windows in the living room, as well as plenty of natural light throughout. The front-facing balcony is also very pretty.

All the places young Zuckerberg may or may not have plotted a global platform that has since pivoted to virtual and augmented reality after racking up an entire Wikipedia page of controversy.
