HOUSTON – Tenants who live in the Timber Ridge apartments on Fleming Drive said the problems are boiling over.

They say no matter how much they complain to management, nothing is done to resolve the ongoing issues.

“It’s so unpleasant and the cockroaches are huge,” according to Yolaine Toledo, who tells KPRC 2 that she has lived in the complex for three years and has moved to three different apartments to try to escape the infestations of parasites.

Toledo said she caught and killed between seven and eight rats in her apartment at night, and couldn’t sleep because she was up all night killing rats that ate in her pantry, contaminating the food.

Toledo also said faulty plumbing was causing flooding and the stench of mold.

Another resident, who asked not to be identified, said she had lived in the apartment complex since March and said she was constantly cleaning and spraying cockroaches which returned daily through the walls and ceilings.

She said she constantly boils rags to disinfect them after cleaning up dead insects and pest droppings and believes the infestations are fueled by overflowing trash cans that haven’t been emptied in weeks, vacant apartments nearby that have not been cleaned and pools with green waters that have become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

Since moving here she said she only received one post, which was a light bill as all the post boxes were broken.

KPRC 2 reporter Deven Clarke held his breath from the extreme stench of rubbish as he knocked on the door of the rental office during the stated opening hours. He also called the number displayed outside several times, but the number seemed to be disconnected.

The two women said rental agents are always there when it’s time to pay hundreds of dollars in monthly rent, but with no one helping with the issues, they feel like they’re running out of options.
